The Bill was introduced into Parliament on 3 December 2015 and progressed through the stages until Wednesday 19th October 2016 when the Papawai and Kaikōkirikiri Trusts Amendment Bill was heard in the House for the Committee stage (as a whole). The third reading was heard on 9 November 2016 and the Private Act, Papawai and Kaikokirikiri Trusts Amendment Act 2016 was given Royal Assent on 15 November 2016.
